About us
Bob Thixton
Bob was born in Zambia. Whist he was boarding at The Ridge School in Johannesburg he discovered his artistic abilities. This was later channeled into the field of design, where he graduated from the Technicon Witwaterand with a diploma in Industrial design. He spent several years designing for a renowned Johannesburg based plastics company, but left in 1987 to sculpt full time.
He works mainly in bronze and occasionally in marble and wood. His work reflects a unique blend of European and African styles. The work is dramatic, sensitive and abstracted representations of various real-life subjects dealing with beauty in form / balance in gravity.
Amongst his corporate commissions are:
- SABC -Victor awards
- Financial Mail – Add Agency Awards
- SABS – Sports Journalists Awards
- IPM – Annual Awards
- EXCOM – Achievement Awards
- M-Net – Red Nose Day Media Awards
- Business Day –Typography and Annual Awards
- Anglo Alpha – Best Article Awards
- Avroy Shlain – Annual Achievement Awards

I have to paint.
I am timid by nature so I create calm works that settle me in a cruel, harsh world.
I am happiest creating works that are gentle and honest. My intention is to portray beauty – beautifully.
No “Smoke and Mirrors” here!
Nature around me is an endless source of inspiration. Thank God!
